Mushrooms of the Pleurotus genus bear fruit in environments with great variations in temperature and humidity, making them by far the best option for growing mushrooms for consumption. They can be grown on various types of substrate, such as grasses, banana leaves, coffee grounds, sawdust, sugarcane bagasse and pieces of wood, preferably enriched with wheat bran. A prior study is recommended for production, due to the different availability of substrates in each region.
The Pleurotus ostreatus mushroom is one of the most widely produced varieties of food mushrooms in Brazil and worldwide. Introduced to the country through oriental cuisine, this mushroom's highlights include its adaptation to the climate, productivity and the aggressiveness of its mycelium.
